Are we sure the title isn’t the sleeping dead? Another boring The Walking Dead

Let me start with saying that Jeffery Dean Morgan is killing it as Negan. Funny, charming and an absolute joy to watch act. Chandler Riggs put together a good episode and really so did most of the rest of the cast, some better than others but decent nonetheless.but the story and episode/season progression that’s another story entirely.

I understand that not every episode is going to be a barn burner,  I really do but to not give us anything truly exciting yet again? Even the iron scene was boring and anti climactic. We watched 2 people get their fucking heads bashed in the first episode, you mean to tell me that putting an iron on a dudes face was so grotesque that we had to focus on Corals stupid face? Are we forgetting this?

Slow. Far too slow. And I seriously doubt that a 90 minute snooze fest of a mid season finale is going to make up for the amount of bullshit filler that has been put out this season. The ratings are down, the enthusiasm is down, there are still an insane amount of people who want smell Dirty Daryls rancid taint, and Daryl is still alive. None of these things are acceptable. Fucking spice it up TWD I’m getting really tired of being fucking bored by you…. And judging by the ratings, there’s a lot more than just me.

Consider my brain eaten or How I’ve lost interest in The Walking Dead

I loved The Walking Dead for a long time. It was brilliant story telling mixed with gore and violence and love and despair. And now, the ratio is off. It’s turned to so so story telling,  poor use of characters and elongated episodes to show that they can get you to watch it for that much longer.

I enjoy the acting, the actors pour their hearts into their parts and I genuinely appreciate what they do for the show. Unfortunately they are being misused with off beat stories and far too much screen time per episode.

The format that is being utilized this season, season 7 is awkward at best. The premier had me hooked,  loved it, loved seeing Negan and the groups interact and loved the episode. Episode 2 I told myself was a nice palette cleanser and a great introduction to Ezekiel. By the time I was halfway through the lets watch the ratings spike by putting Daryl in gray sweats and make him look extra nasty episode ( I’ll have a whole other paragraph for that craziness)  I had lost virtually all interest in what’s happening. It’s almost as though they take so much pride in the story that they forget to move the story forward at a pace that continues to be exciting and fun.

That brings me to Daryl. I don’t get it. I keep seeing things about how if Daryl dies that fans will riot. I see woman swoon over him,  I see people constantly posting pics and talking about the dirty things that they would do to him. I like Norman Reedus,  I truly do. Boondock Saints is one of my all time favorite movies. What I don’t get is this attachment to the character of Daryl Dixon. Maybe it’s just because I’m not a woman or attracted to men that way but I have grown to dislike his character in a way that I cheered when he punched Negan because I thought that there was a chance Daryl would get the bat instead of Glenn.

In closing, I will watch again when I hear that there was a good episode but I’m done with watching every week. I keep tuning in and keep getting disappointed. Maybe they will look at how a few other shows move their stories along and take some pointers, then I’ll be back.

Vikings s4 ep11 The Outsider review

Ragnar has Returned to Kattegat.
Let me start by saying that this was not an action packed episode but instead was an amazing setup to the story for the second half of season 4. Bjorn going to talk to the seer is a perfect example as he is told that many calamities will befall them because of his father returning and that he should “curse the day”. So let’s start with Bjorns story moving forward.

While in Paris Bjorn found a partial map showing the Mediterranean Sea and some of its surrounding areas and has made it his new quest to sail there to raid Rome (I’m almost positive that’s the location mentioned). We learn that he has contracted Floki to build his ship and that both Floki and his brother Hvitserk. This is why he tells Ragnar that he can not go to England with him.

We meet up with Helga and Floki as Ragnar has come to see his old friend for what looks like a recruiting visit, only to learn that yes,  Floki is building a ship for Bjorn and will be going with him on his journey telling Ragnar “I made him a promise, and you were not here.”  This is also where we learn that Floki never told anyone of how things happened in Paris.

The scenes with Floki were heartfelt and emotionally brutal as you can really see in Flokis face and eyes that he truly loves Ragnar. The one question I came away with is did Ragnar tell Floki that he loved him in sincerity to make amends or as a ploy to try and get Floki to break the promise to Bjorn.  It’s never been any secret that Ragnar has 1 main interest in life,  being famous and well known.

Ragnar also visits Lagertha, which was one of the lighter moments of the episode as Lagerthas new love interest Astrid has peaked Ragnars attention by swooning over him, and then Ragnar realizes that Lagertha has taken a female love interest causing me to laugh loudly at the expression given by Ragnar.

Same question popped in my head with his visit with Lagertha, does he sincerely mean that he wishes they still had their original farmer lifestyle together or does he know exactly what buttons to push on everyone to make them second guess helping him go to England.

Ragnar leaves and attempts to hang himself which led to another laugh as the rope breaks and a visibly distraught Ragnar flops around in disgust on the ground in what appears to be a true fml moment.

Ivar The Bonerless. Right from the start of the development of the teenage Ivar you can see the ruthlessness in his eyes. At the dinner scene, which is the only time we see Aslaug, everyone including his mother seems to fear Ivar.  Now the part that truly told me that Ivar is going to truly be one of if not the most dangerous person on Vikings is when we learn that Ivars disease does not allow him to please a woman. This embarrassment is in my opinion going to be what makes him almost serial killer like in that if he can’t prove his manhood by pleasing a woman that he will prove it through cruelty and brutality. It will be interesting to see how far they push Ivar during the season.
All in all I thought this was an amazing start to the season 4b as it worked to set up the events in the season and was still able to not be boring. I definitely know another show that could really use to take lessons from Vikings on how to make a season go smoothly and evenly without being boring ***cough cough the walking dead cough cough ***

Rating 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Captain Bucky Barnes?

Anyone who has read Captain America comics and watched the Marvel movies knows that eventually someone will be taking over the mantle of Cap. It’s inevitable,  Chris Evans  will eventually be replaced whether it be a reboot with another Steve Rogers or with one of the options that are readily available to use in the existing MCU. Sam Wilson (Falcon played by Anthony Macke)  is currently a Captain America. But before he became Cap,  there was another who took over the shield when *SPOILER*………………… Steve Rogers is assassinated. Bucky Barnes became the shield toting super soldier replacing the dead…. Well, somewhat dead Steve Rogers. Actor Sebastian Stan has thrown fuel on the fire with his Instagram post showing him with an all new shield design. Does this mean that Bucky will indeed be the new Cap or is it just a prop that he had made for himself? Only time will tell the real story.

The burning question I have is one of politics. Will Marvel decide to skip a section of Cap lore (yes I realize they have skipped a ton)  that is sitting on a silver platter in front of them by making Bucky the new Captain America or will they skip to present day comics and make Sam Wilson the new Cap? I personally would like to eventually see both happen but I would much rather see Bucky now. The political question that comes up is will Marvel make it Sam Wilson for fear of being accused of Whitewashing in the same way they were with the Ancient One in Dr Strange? I don’t believe the Cap conundrum to be Whitewashing since it’s a matter of time line but in will undoubtedly be brought up.

I say Bucky but I also don’t stand to lose money if people cry whitewash….. Again.

Anne Rice planning Vampire Chronicles TV series.

Anne Rice announced Saturday that she and her son Christopher have reclaimed the rights to Interview with a Vampire and are planning an open ended television series

based on the incredibly popular series of novels.

Rice called into Entertainment Weekly for a phone interview to go over the plans and excitement for the project. According to the ew.com interview they are planning on starting with the second book in the series The Vampire Lestat, starting with his transformation into a vampire and going from there.

Rice also mentioned that there is no actual finish line for the series, stating that the first book will probably run over the first 2 seasons of the show and will be staying true to the novel. Son Christopher Rice will be taking the lead on the show as executive producer with Anne assisting him where needed and that they plan to be involved in every aspect of the series including casting.

Casting was originally an issue with the movie Interview with a Vampire as Anne Rice was displeased with the choice of Tom Cruise to play the Aristocratic Lestat, but after seeing the finished product was pleased with Cruises performance.

The mother and son team are currently working on writing a pilot for the series with hopes that a network will pick it up and allow this beautifully written series of novels to be seen in all its glory on the small screen and told to a whole new generation of vampire lovers. Lets hope that network that picks this up is of the HBO or Netflix variety so that the novels can be given their just due of beauty and brutality.

‘Rogue One’  breaks the Internet.

Star wars has done it again. Pre-sale tickets went on sale Sunday night/Monday at midnight and the movie ticket site crashed and lagged.

Deadline.com reported that the website movietickets.com has said that since the opening of sales Rogue One has dominated ticket sales at 76% of total sales for the site with Moana coming in second place at 5%. That’s a staggering number.
The movie which is a prequel to A New Hope,  centers around Jyn Erso; a criminal in the past who is recruited to lead a team of miscreant rebels put into action to steal the plans for the Death Star.

Rogue One is tracking at 130 million for the domestic opening weekend. I’m going to make my prediction at 170 million.

What is your prediction for opening weekend numbers? Leave a comment and let me know.

And “may the force be with you… Always”

Highlander reboot gets the Wick treatment.

Highlander” gets a shot of fast paced action.

The long in process and long awaited reboot of the action fantasy classic brings in director Chad Stahelski of “John Wick” and its forthcoming sequel fame. What does this mean for the reboot? Insane action, great fights and a fast paced story that will reinvigorate the universe and the Clan MacLeod.

A similar “Highlander” with a new life.

This reboot has been in the works since around 2008 and has had a few stars linked to it and then broken away from it as well. There is no one attached to the project to play the lead character of Connor MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod. Ryan Reynolds was attached at one point and has since moved on from it. Tom Cruise has also been rumored to be attached as well but that is unconfirmed. Cinemablend.com reports that Dave Bautista, from Guardians of the Galaxy, is attached to play the lead villain originally played by Clancy Brown. Bautista seems the perfect fit to play the Kurgan, a brooding hulk of an immortal man. No news on who would play Ramirez, the quick witted trainer and immortal originally played by Sean Connery. Perhaps they will cast someone of Latino descent to play the character now rather than Whitewashing it with a name star. The project has also had a slew of directors attached that have left including Justin Lin, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and Cedric Nicolas-Troyan who went on to direct “Huntsman: Winter War”. Based on that directorial debut, losing Cedric Nicolas-Troyan may have been a blessing in disguise.

“John Wick” directing duo have an amazing couple of months.

Directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch have the sequel to the hit movie starring Keanu Reeves premiering early 2017, Leitch was just announced as the new director of “Deadpool 2” taking over after Tim Miller left the project and now Stahelski taking over “Highlander”. Now we know what to expect from the reboot, eye popping sword play, fast paced story and brutal action. All in the name of “there can be only one”.

Angry Again?

”That’s my secret, Captain: I’m always angry.”

That’s the words of Bruce Banner just before he makes a controlled change into the Hulk. And I’m staring to understand the complexity of that statement. When I first heard I thought to myself that there’s no way that someone is angry all the time. No way. But that was a cool fucking line.

I was wrong. The older I get the angrier I am at most times. Not all the time,  but most of them I am angry and it shows through. Like the smile is just a mask that melts away. Don’t get me wrong,  I’m not depressed, I’m not emo. I’m just angry all the time. It’s always there. Waiting to rear its head. That’s actually when I feel the most balanced. The most comfortable in my own skin. I’ve gone from being a happy go lucky guy in my early twenties to a mad son  a bitch in my late thirties.

The thing that is most interesting is that is what makes me happy. The anger reminds me that I’m alive. Reminds me that blood flows through me still. I feel stagnant and out of place when I am complacent and smiling. Doesn’t feel right.  Even people who know me are weirded out by me being in a “good mood”. What they aren’t realizing is that my mood is one hundred percent great when I am angry.

My favorite part is the fact that I don’t give 2 fucks who knows I am angry,  because you see I am a realist all the time,  I don’t sugar coat, I don’t compliment for everyday normal shit. I will congratulate for someone making sergeant in the police force,  that took work and determination. I will not congratulate for someone getting pregnant. What am I supposed to say?  Congratulations, you found the hole and didn’t pull out. This is why I don’t have a lot of friends. A fact that I am perfectly fine with. Fuck more friends, people are the fucking worst.

So if some of my rants sound angry, or I come across like a real asshole that’s because I am. And I don’t care who knows it and I couldn’t give less of a fuck about your feelings. I used to say that I hate stupid people, I was completely wrong….. I hate all people.

Go fuck yourself.
